Space Race and Philately

After 2nd world war, the world witnessed extensive competition between the two superpowers of the world who tried continuously to be superior. Thus, the space race was that part of Cold War where USA and USSR competed with each other for supremacy in spaceflight capability. This silent war is depicted on various philatelic issues released by the two countries.The United States issued to the stamp depicting the first man to land on Moon while USSR released the stamp commemorating the man who conducted the first Space Walk. One of the USSR stamp released in 1967 bears the image of two Astronauts; on the other hand, USA also has released a stamp depicting two US astronauts hoisting American Flag. Laika the first dog which was sent to moon also appears one of the stamps issued by USSR.
Every achievement in space is recorded on the stamps; hence the study of Space Race with the help of stamps becomes interesting.
